Our client was not sure about the efficiency of the office layout proposed by a contractor; a large corridor sided by small offices. We were then asked to completely renovate the interior of a 420 m² office space in Delft. Their main demands were to stay within the budget of 36.000 euros and to have the job done within the fixed time frame of six weeks. Our own demands were, to come up with a better design, materialization and a custom fit spatial solution in which the dull office atmosphere of a prefabricated wall system would not be the dominating feature. By modifying the wall system we created an open plan office space in which the corridor space could be put to use. With this transformation, much excess material became available for re-use. Unused window parts were transformed into a transparent separation wall for the canteen, left over wall-system elements were covered with carpet. The carpet elements create a large soft volume in the office space. The noise reducing aspects of the carpet work well with the telephone helpdesk that occupies the volume. A large room dividing curtain creates flexible spaces that can be visually separated from the other office space.
