START UP GARAGE

Competition about temporal start-up units at Zeche Zollverein. 1893 Henry Ford builds his first car ,the Quadricycle, in a garage. 1939 Bill Hewlett and David Packard create the company “HP” in a garage. 1976 Steve jobs and Steve Wozniak build “Apple I” in Job´s garage. 1998 Larry PAGE and Sergey Brin create the company “Google” in a garage. Important ideas are growing at everyday life places: In the shower, in the train, while cleaning the dishes and in garages. Nowadays people are working everywhere: in cafes, in the train, on the street or at the kitchen table. In the past there was always a place with a certain aura: the yard of the medici, the Monte Verità, Montmatré and Warhol´s Factory. “Start Up Garage” merges the everyday life with this spirit. You do not need a new space for people who are working on there own. There are already so many as we described before. The Start Ups need like-minded people in a space with spirit. “Start Up Garage” has a footprint of 221 sqm and is used by a couple of Start Ups with a scholarship for 6 months. The open structure offers a flexible use of the space. The whole unit consists of 12 prefabricated
garages of the company ESTELIT.
