We believe that co-operative design and development by groups of stakeholders produces the best buildings - allowing resources, space and energy to be distributed according to collective needs while respecting individual requirements and tastes.
With our joint expertise in development, community engagement and architecture, we offer a unique level of support in guiding collectives of people through the complex process required to realise co-development of buildings.
This can take place at various scales: from a floating neighbourhood developed collectively by its future residents to an office park planned together by the owners of different units of land. The central goal remains the same, to involve more stakeholders, democratising the development process and ensuring more people are happy with the outcome.
In Glimpses, we expand this idea onto a whole neighbourhood, proposing to cluster building groups into interest-based building blocks, joined together by collective courtyards.
We have developed and constructed multiple community buildings in which residents share spaces and facilities. In the WLG, ZEE and JFK residential projects there are shared lounges, guest rooms, roof terraces, courtyards as well as car-sharing, collective solar panels and laundry facilities. The residents were involved in the design process from day one and were completely free to design their own apartment to suit them.
At Wij_land, we are using the same process, taking the community of future residents through a series of workshops to discuss ambitions, typologies, circulation, sustainability and produce a fully circular building with personalised dwelling layouts.
The knowledge and tools we have developed over the years through work in community building has led us to create CrowdBuilding - a whole new platform and community-oriented real estate development company supporting building groups through finding location, recruiting new members and realising their building vision.
