The sustainable incubator New Energy Docks had plans to move into the old Shell laboratory 'Grootlab'. We pitched a plan for the transformation of this courtyard building into an inspiring space in which all startup companies can mingle, interact and come up with brilliant ideas. Therefore all they need to do was covering up one of the large courtyards. With a low cost roof made either out of scaffolding structure, old greenhouse roofs or an inflatable structure, the 'quality' return on investment will be huge. The large central space will connect all three office floors together and facilitate true interaction. It will also improve the sustainable aspects of the building which properly matches the tenants shared vision. Considering the low budget, we combine top down investment in collective space, with a bottom-up DIY strategy for the individual office units.
We used this project to develop bottom-up, low cost strategies that can help decreasing the amount of empty office stock in Holland.
