Urbanism Week TU Delft

For the TU Delft Urbanism week 2012, space&matter is invited to host a workshop about virtual-networks based city making.

From 24 to 28 September 2012 the student practice association POLIS is to organise the Urbanism Week 2012. The event concerns the theme ‘SECOND HAND CITIES; rethinking practice in times of standstill’.
Second Hand Cities
This year’s theme will be ‘Second Hand Cities, re-thinking practice in times of standstill’. The Urbanism Week is to explore alternative solutions to the same problems cities all over the world have been experiencing for the last years during this recession. How does our profession need to change in these economic difficult times? Are we educating our next generation urbanists in the right way? What is the role of the citizen these days? What is the best way of engaging with citizens and getting them involved in projects? Should governments and authorities step aside and let civil initiatives take control over their environment?

Also Frits van Dongen , John Habraken, Santiago Cirugeda, Joan Busquets, Henk Ovink, Duzan Doepel, Wouter Vanstiphout and the office 'Atelier d'architecture autogérée' will give a lecture or workshop during Urbanism Week 2012.
