State of Fashion

Space&Matter was asked by State of Fashion to create an overall exhibition design within the existing structure of the Melkfabriek in Arnhem. The event needed to reflect the aims of State of Fashion; combining hard core activism with new forms of glamour, while critically reflecting on current societal values. The seven week event hosts 50 exhibitors divided into five main themes.
The exhibition represents a diverse scope of work with respect to discipline and medium. A variety of material from objects and garments to scientific research, video and photography will be featured in each theme. By creating five dramatically different environments, each ‘room’ has its own identity and atmosphere. The roughness of the abandoned milk factory provides the perfect environment to contrast with these new concepts of extravagance.

Circularity and re-use
In following the manifest of ‘State of Fashion’, circularity and re-use are key to the design process and construction of the exhibition. Therefore it was important that the materials have a definitive destination upon the conclusion of the exhibition.
