Corner Klaprozenweg Papaverweg

Productive housing block

In the 20th century, Buiksloterham evolved into a bustling industrial hub, home to major companies and large-scale industrial exhibitions. Following its peak period up until the 1950s, the area experienced a transformation: industries began to shrink, transform, or disappear altogether, and the once-dominant smoking chimneys gradually faded from the cityscape. Instead of merely replacing these lost elements, our proposal envisions the creation of a mixed-use block that not only provides ample space for production but also integrates an architectural approach. This approach is designed to reference the informal, pragmatic character of the existing environment, capturing its layered materiality and the interplay of various intermediate spaces.
